A common question these days is whether you can play SimCity 4 in widescreen. And the answer is, yes, you actually can! What you need to do is to look up your shortcut to SC4 (if you don’t have one find your installation folder/apps and create one from your simcity4.exe file). Now right click on it and chose properties. In the target box add the following after the path and the quotation marks:

-r1360×768x32 -CustomResolution:enabled

Replace the resolution values with the ones you prefer. The third value sets the color depth, either 16 or 32bit. And voilà, there you go! Just remember to chose a resolution that your monitor supports and beware of the aspect ratio, or the game might look a bit blurred. Happy widescreen gaming.

Seriously guy? That command line option has a “×” in it. That is not the letter x, it’s the multiplication symbol ×. Meaning, it won’t work if you copy+paste that directly into the options. Took me ten minutes to figure out why it wasn’t working.

Make a shortcut on your desktop for SimCity 4. Right-click it and go to properties. In target, add the above after the last quotation mark like this:

    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe” -CustomResolution:enabled -r1366×768x32

I don’t know what Kal Zekdor is on about, the letter x works fine as part of that option.

Thank you, this worked great for me! Just make sure you don’t accidentally set your resolution higher than it actually is. I set mine to 1600×1200 at first and the program wouldn’t locked. I checked my resolution and reset it to 1600×900 and now it fills the screen. Perfect! :D
