I've been playing city since 1995 and I must admit I paid the money in hopes that Societies would be better than I expected and I didn't expect much but this game is a complete disaster. It is just Boring, poor graphics even on a 24" monitor you can't even see anything and it has difficulties playing on standard machines. It only plays to it's full potential on my new gaming system! It was poorly designed, programmed and the overall objective is Boring. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Still making attempts at trying to make this fun. It ain't happening. I made varying villages of Authoritarian, Contemplative, and Cyberpunk in the same city and it is just all so pointless and stupid. I'm also trying to think of all the stuff I could have done with that $50 I spent on the game.

Would this have been any better if they had still allowed zones and city growth AND the placement of specific buildings? I don't know. All I know is SOMEBODY needs to design a really cool City Builder game again and put this crap behind us.

They phucked up man, big time.

I agree with you Chad, why they can't understand that what people want is the same game with vast improvements NOT hinderances is beyond me.

Sim City is a massive brand with a massive following. Anyone who knows anything about marketing knows that you have an active TARGETED crowd of existing players both young and old spanning years. Instead of targeting those users, you end up shooting directly beyond them for a target user base you really don't know anything about.

This game will fade to black very quickly. People will forget about it and its sales will be dismal.

Wankers.

SOOOOOO SAD. I keep trying to like this game but I just can't. The excitement wears off in about 5 seconds when you realize you can only zoom out enough to see 2 city blocks.
Why is it so hard for game developers to understand that all we want is SimCity with newer graphics, more whistles and bells, better buildings, etc. etc. They keep screwing up a good thing. SimCity 4 was lacking because they made everything cost so much and things were too difficult to manage at once. A sandbox mode was all that game needed and it would have been great. Some of us just want to build and watch things grow. But Societies, while pretty to look at, just seems pointless.

I agree with Lori, if I could have both it would be wonderful. My Son 11 is happy just puting up builings etc. I am not 11 and I dont see the point. Like the camera angle like being able to put the building I want where I want them. DO not like not being able to run the city. I want to put power lines and water in, have different road, change the taxes and income. And we both miss the missions.
In this one there is no rail, harbour, and laying the roads in not fun.
Now I wait for the expansion packs that better be around the corner. PLEASE.

I have mixed feelings about Societies. I've been playing all versions of Simcity for years and years, and this game is definitly not an updated version of SC. However I am also the type of player who perfers building the houses in the Sims games more than actually playing the Sims.
Societies is indeed an easy game to master, I also had the thing figured in about an hour. The one thing I always wished I could do in SC was to choose which building I could put where I wanted(every time I put a few commercial squares in a residential area I always got office building rather than the small stores I had hoped for). Now I can put stuff exactly where my "a.r" self wants them to be.
I do like Societies for what it is, but I agree that after about an hour and a half, I become pretty bored. With SC I could play for hours.
Would I recommend it.... I dunno, its an ok game. I wish I could combine Societies with Sim City...That would be the perfect game for me.

I am so disappointed in this game. I own every Simcity game, and this one is BY FAR the worst. If you love your Simcity games, I recommend you not by this so that you can keep your pure good opinion on simciy games. When I started playing this game I almost cried because it was so below my expectations. I like the horizontal camera angle and the sports stadium, but thats about it. I love transportation networks and this has a total of 4 (roads which must be a four lane road, dirt roads, buses, and subway) There are no subway lines to put down, no water lines.I can't even watch my city grow! I can only see about 6 buildings if im lucky from up above. IF YOU WANT THIS TYPE OF GAME BUY CITY LIFE!!!!!!!

Oh my god...this is soooo disapointing!! I cannot believe I spent money on this. After an hour, I was completely bored. I think this is the last Sim product I buy. I lost interest with the Sims2 and never bought any expansion packs. I wish they would stop messing with a good thing. Sim City Societies has ruined my "simming" experience forever. Ughhh.
