Gamasutra reports that EA has donated SimCity Classic to the non-profit One Laptop Per Child humanitarian initiative. OLPC aims to distribute computers to children in countries such as Ethiopia, Mexico and India, among others. EA hopes that SimCity will help these children develop skills in decision-making; Steve Seabolt of EA comments:
SimCity is entertainment that’s unintentionally educational. Players learn to use limited resources to build and customize their cities. There are choices and consequences, but in the end, it’s a creativity tool that’s only limited by the player’s imagination.
SimCity has to this date sold over 18 million copies worldwide.
