According to the Spanish fan site Capital SimCity the Russian web site Absolute Games has SimCity 5 listed to be released in October this year! Furthermore the official distributor of EA Games in Russia SoftClub also states a 2007 release. Since these are only semi-official sources we should take it with a grain of salt, it could just be a misunderstanding or bad communications with EA. Nevertheless no smoke witout a fire and news like these are just what we need in the drought.

i played all except sc4, to much boring micromanagment or rather boring things you need to do to finally get the city going, will sc 5 be like in the sc3000,2000 days??? there i really enjoyed seeing a living city and growing without these liitle stupid things you ned to do in sc4, taking away the enjoyment of it all!

I wonder if Sims 2 will have any part in this? They maybe use the same software or do the importing characters thing… Sims would be better looking for sure. Maybe have area you can see your Sims 2 Neighborhoods and gain extras from them… Like your Sims 2 University boost your education in the area. I hope SimCity 5 fix the taffic in the cities. Have more Sims walk longer to places. Also Sims will take a highways than a normal road. I like to see Traffic based off these 3 sources; Europe Cities, Japan Cities, and Major U.S. Cities. Would be lovely to have those styles too… I would love to see how much better this one will be.

I hope Sim City 5 dose come out this year, I have been waiting for it for 3 years. I was disapointed with Sim City 4, however I think I still like it better then the other three Sim Citys and I liked the rush hour expantion pack. I am hoping sim city 5 will have some of the things Sim City 4 should have had but did not. Like buildings that line up with streets that do not go North/South or East/West.
I also think your city should be able to host events such as the worlds fair, or the summer/winter Olympics.
I want Sim City to stay the way it is.. but to also have the ability to tax individual businesses as they pop up.. so Walmart for instance.. if it pops up.. or a huge dpet of store like.. I can tax the shit to it.. meanwhile letting smaller businesses prosper
Well I’ve started my research on SC 5 @ the beginning of this year and was looking into it’s news on Forums around the world. I hope It’s gonna be by the end of this year. We will hear more abpout it next month when the biggest annual Video Gaming fare in Los Angeles starts. I hope Those Game Mags ask about SC5 @ the Press Conference overthere!

I think the May release is an error (obviously) it is actually the release of Sim City 4 Deluxe for the Mac.

I think Sim city 5 should have the same base as sim city 4 but with more options. Sc5 needs better transportation system such as roads that can curve or atleast go more then 45 degree angle. Also they need to have zoning be able to be built at any angle.
Well a lot of people here said they hope it’s like Sim City 4 WITH a whole bunch more but EA is reporting that it’s actually going to be less complicated so (imagine SimCity without all the micromanaging). Sim City 4 took a bit of time to get things going, I think here it’ll be much simpler (which might disappoint more hardcore fans)…. but I also think there’s a reason behind all this. Expansion packs… look at how much money EA made on The Sims 2 expansion packs. They’re probably going to release a simple (I’m sure it’ll look awesome) and then have people buy a crapload of expansion packs to add more stuff to it.

i would like more control over what gets built, especially when it comes to residential areas.
zone for 1 level apartments, multistory apartments, high-rise apartments/condos/etc.
zone for luxury homes (gated neighborhoods), zone for cookie cutter 1990s-2000s suburbia garden homes, etc.
also, how about being able to have ground floor retail but upper floor apartment/condos? you know… like every major city in the world…

They need to add an online element to it. I thought that really would have make Sim City 4 better.
I thought they could have made it as an online game like some of the games like Battlefield, etc. Just start out with a bare world with 12-16 zones and let the online users create there own zone in conjunction with the other zones. See who can build the best, see if people can work together and get tourist areas, airports, etc.

I read somewhere that SC5 will be released around November 5th 2007… Don’t know if it’s true or not, but it’s better than nothing.
The main thing SC5 will need is the same BAT program that Spore will have coming with it. Those of you who have watched Wright’s Spore demos probably already know about it - it’s a program that is integrated into Spore & allows easy click and drag methods to make EXTREMELY customizable buildings in Spore. I think if SC5 has that type of BAT it’ll be a gem.
SC5 also needs to learn from some of the problems SC4 had. Without user-made mods SC4 had many bugs, especially in terms of path-finding & building growth.
I highly doubt SC5 will be released in 2007. If it is then that means one thing - Wright didn’t work on it. Sure, EA is big enough so it could be working on both Spore & SC5, but Wright has definitely been putting 100% of his effort into Spore. If Wright doesn’t design SC5 then it won’t include the advanced systems Wright has developed with the Sims & Spore series. SC5, I predict, will be a watered-down sham if produced by anyone other than Wright.
SC5 (if Wright’s working on it) will be released after Spore most likely - and hopefully before Sims 3. This will mean SC5 will have some developmental systems from both Spore & Sims 3 in it.
One thing i ask for.
I loved the regions and stuff, but i hated how city boundaries were pre-set, and especially how Maxisland had none of the really really big lots… if you could customize your own boundaries, that would rock
one more… fully 3d, its been done in other city games, and is overdue in the classic sim city

I think that SC4 was outstanding. Rush Hour was definitely needed but man I love the game.
SC3000 was ok but I don’t know, I just hated it.
The other day I ran SC2000 and played for 2 days. Once I built half a city, I loaded up SC4.
I spent almost 7 months building a region with a friend. 2 Million people and about 20 cities. I did one on a large map and it’s the best city I ever made.
I don’t mind the micro of managing everything, it’s the complexity that makes it fun and challenging.
I would say SC2000 was fairly simple as far as budget management and I would be fine with that in SC5.
If it’s too simple it wouldn’t be much fin for me (except stunning graphics would make me play if anything)
I understand simplifying the micro makes more people want to play (thus more profit for EA) but we’ll see what happens.
I am going to check with a software distributor to see if we can get a real release date.

I just hope they didnt ( or havent) oversimplified the game, I dont mind micromanaging that much, but if it was a little simpler that would be nice.
The graphics are going to be a MAJOR factor. In simcity 4 the graphics are slightly cartoonish, and the minimum requirements were… surprisingly low, we can only wait and see.
As for budget management, I didnt think that it was that hard, and it doesnt need that much tweaking, besides the ability to adjust funding for EVERY SINGLE plopable, scrap that and just make the entire thing, like tranportation, education, ect adjustable.
God, I reaaaaly hope they fix transportation, in simcity 4 its a mess, the pathfinding is all screwed up, and it gets confusing. :L
People, please provide release date, and if possible, screenies, real or fake! The fakes might give us an idea on how things MIGHT look.
The game is currently called Sim City Societies, but that is just a working title.
An official anouncement is expected next week along with the first official Screen shots.

SimCity 4 is a rip-off. First of all, when you satisfy Monique Diamond with the budget, Jonas Sparks and the Health and Education Advisors are whining for more funding. and when you zone for high density, they either build a crappy farmers maerket, or they build a so called “high-rise building” and use a crane to make it look convincing. Also when you try to make money by raising taxes the budget counseling is happy, but neil fairbanks wants tax relief, etc…etc…etc!
Commercial come on! Grow! once you’ve built the city you sit there waiting, don’t get me wrong, it’s a good game, but I hope Sc5 is better. To me the city looks like an overgrown rubix cube. It looks so boxy! I agree with Jason, It is so friggin hard to get a good income, without people buugging you for more funding!

I have simCity 3000 unlimited. It use to work fine on my old computer, now I cannot get it to run on my new one. Windows XP with desent graphics card, it installs everything as far as i can tell but when I load for play it gives me the maxis screen then a black screen appears and a box that just says OK with a close x at the top. help please.
